21st Century Penang Learning Community reflects the initiatives of the people of Penang in examining the relevance of secular education and the move towards the Cultivation of the Mind and Soul as the role of Education in the 21st Century.

21st Century PLC does not represent a company nor  an entity but an organic, collaborative movement among parents, teachers and students.  Members of this tribe are willing to rethink the ideas behind Industrial Schooling, question the miseducation of the masses and conceptualize a new paradigm of learning for the future.  All of this begins with a personal responsibility to examine and question our beliefs about the Mind of the individual, the role of the  family, the history of schooling, the purpose of education, the function of learning and our way of living.  It is the hope of this blog and the face-to-face collaborative learning meetings can achieve the objective of the former.

21st Century Penang Learning Community encourages life-long learning for both adults and young people, within and beyond mass schooling, state-funded and/or private education.

Among topics covered are :

• Self-education
• Self-directed learning
• Examining 20th Century Schooling
• Special-needs education
• Penang as a center of Educational excellence
• Awareness of the rich diversity in art, intellect, craft and innovation among the Penang Community.

Most importantly this is a community to bring together the conversations people have about the schooling system in Penang, Malaysia and throughout the world and to discuss them in a logical, intelligent way that leads progressively to ideas and solutions. Collective conversations can be channeled to inform and empower constructive movements or be left to devolve into complaints that lead to a feeling of isolation, apathy or disgruntlement.  It is the hope of this initiative that we as a community can achieve the former.
